On February 04th and 05th and from February 11th to 21st 2012

Venice Carnival is a unique world-famous event everyone shouldn’t miss.

This year’s theme’s is “Life is a theatre! It’s time to get masked : it will be revived by lots of endless series of spectacles, between the beginning of Carnival and its end, on the 21st february 2012.

Every district, every square, San Marco’s square will be involved in the endless series of theatrical performances, circus shows, showing of films, dances, songs, concerts, drinks, parties.
For the most curious : guide-actors will lead you in the most secret parts of the city, in fascinating “dramatized” tours.

There are lots of opportunities to enjoy Venice Carnival and we’re extremely glad to help you choose the most typical ones, made of unique experiences and unforgettable unrepeatable moments, in which the most ancient folkloristic Carnival tradition mixes up to the incomparable awesomeness of Venice.

Drink a toast in San Marco!
This year’s theme’s the theatre!: Venetian colorful characters will welcome the guests of this romantic lagoon city.

From 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. a choral “cheers” in Piazzetta San Marco, accompanied by the Italian opera’s most famous “Brindiam!” (“Cheers!”).

Water procession and… let the party begin!

Water procession from San Marco to Cannaregio, at 10 a.m.

“Svolo della pantegana” (“the fluttering rat”), a comical preview of the famous “Volo dell’Angelo” (“the Angel’s flying”), which is the annual opening performance of Venice Carnival.
Wine-and-food stands with traditional carnival delicacies: fritole and galani among the others.

La Festa della Marie
San Marco Square, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Historical commemoration of the Doge’s annual custom to present 12 humble young girls of marriageable age with dogal jewels.
A procession of white-dressed girls from Castello to San Marco, the prize-giving will take place during the last day of Carnival.

The Angel’s flying
San Marco Square, 12 a.m.

Historical commemoration of the tribute to the Doge.
A special guest of Venice city, kept secret till the last day, will fly off through San Marco Square, hanging from a wire: from the top of San Marco’s bell tower to the middle of the square.

From Saturday, February 11th 2012 to Tuesday, February 21th 2012
An endless series of meetings with Venice Carnival 2011 at the Grand Foyer, the theatrical machine placed at San Marco Square.
San Marco Square, from 2 p.m. to dead of night.

Shows, circus shows and theatrical performances, parades, concerts, dances and happy-hour: a series of events, for all the tastes.
Every day, from 2 p.m., San Marco square will become the beating heart of Carnival 2012.

From Saturday, February 26th 2011 to Tuesday, March 8th 2011
THEMED DINNERS AT THE CASINO
Cà Vendramin Calergi Palace from 8 p.m.

The palace faces the Canal Grande and it is the seat of the Casino
Theatrical performances, parties and burlesque-themed dinners (a 19th century typical performance) will be housed at the piano nobile (the first floor).

From Saturday, February 26th 2011 to Tuesday, March 8th 2011
THE CHILDREN’S CARNIVAL
Campo San Polo, from 3 p.m.

In the ‘campo’ (square) there will be activities for children: spectacles, entertaining, games and lots of confetti and frittelle.
