Osteria Il Pendolo: Discover the taste and flavours of traditional Venetian food
The building in which the tavern is located was once used as a farmhouse, however the structure originally formed part of a convent built in the 1500s. With its old thick walls, some of which reveal frescoes painted centuries ago and a vintage-style interior decor that recreates the homely, country atmosphere of a tavern of the 1930s, visitors may feel they have been suddenly and magically transported onto the set of a Federico Fellini period production.
In the large, open fireplace burning wood releases its fragrance and the smoky aromas of grilled meat fill the dining room and drift out to adjacent areas, but then the festive atmosphere created at the local osteria is a part of life at Ballò, a small rural municipality on the Venetian mainland.
During the summer it’s pleasant to sit outside and have something to eat and drink with one’s friends at a table beneath the external wooden pergola covered with wisteria, and where the rural atmosphere is completed by the presence of a sow called Belena and Bigio the mule.
The setting, the atmosphere, fresh garden herbs and genuine country fare and also the hospitable manner of the owner make this an experience definitely worth trying. This is a taste of the real Veneto.
