Spend two days in the mainland Riviera del Brenta area, where the stately homes of the Venetian nobility were frequented during the Renaissance by members of the local patrician families, the leading scholars of the day, men of letters and artists .
The River Brenta and the string of small towns located along the route it follows can be seen as a continuation of the Grand Canal. While staying in this area visitors are advised to visit Venice by boat. From the Fusina Terminal, a small port at the mouth of the Brenta just a 15-minutes drive away from the hotel where you will stay, public (pedestrian) waterbus ferries cross the lagoon to the Zattere district in the city of Venice, passing through the Giudecca Canal.
From the Zattere, one may then go on to discover the city.
Visitors may wish to walk from the Zattere to the bridge at the Accademia and then on to St Mark’s square, the heart of the city.
Out of the many attractions possible, we would at least suggest the famous Gelateria Nico ice-cream parlour, also at the Zattere. It’s a sort of a cult thing but well worth trying.
In particular, the ‘Gianduiotto’ chocolate speciality is a delight not to be missed!
